About +Impact Studio In September 2019, B+I launched the +Impact Studio, a physical space and campus hub dedicated to harnessing the power of design and impact to generate solutions to societal challenges, with a focus on translating faculty research insights into impactful applications. The studio offers an interdisciplinary graduate course in which students leverage research insights, business acumen, and design methodologies to develop solutions that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and hosts programming such as workshops and speakers.
Purpose The +Impact Studio Program Manager provides general management of the non-course Studio programming and day-to-day program operations to execute on the Studio’s strategic goals. The Program Manager engages a wide range of constituents at Michigan Ross and University of Michigan more broadly and with alumni and external partners, serves as a human-centered design coach for students and other groups collaborating with the studio, and helps manage B+I social innovation programming.

Program and Project Management
Impact Studio & B+I Social Innovation Program Planning and Implementation
Collaborate with faculty director and studio staff and partners to co-design and facilitate engaging, impact-focused design thinking programming (prompts, exercises, workshops, jams) that trains participants to utilize design methodologies alongside business acumen to create impact
Lead the design and facilitation of non-course programming that helps students build rare and valuable skills and drives engagement with the Impact Studio and the graduate course
Use the design process (empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, testing) and tools (ecosystem mapping, opportunity framing, journey mapping, prototyping tools, etc.) to design and facilitate customized sessions for a wide range of constituents
Leverage expertise in training and implementing design principles and methodologies to communicate in compelling ways using stories and a variety of visual mediums
Skillfully integrate design, strategy, financial, and operational considerations of programming
Serve as liaison to constituents during programs and projects
Manage B+I social innovation and entrepreneurship programming/partnerships
Apply design thinking and research to the Impact Studio’s work and to support the work of B+I
Identify and implement opportunities to enhance programming by continually examining the external market and other programs
Work with Faculty Director, Associate Dean, and Managing Director to ensure activities continue to align with the Impact Studio’s strategic direction and deliver on program objectives
Supervise full-time and temporary staff as needed
Coordinate special projects as necessary
Impact Studio Community Building and Coaching
Develop, launch, and staff team-based designing for impact coaching program
Mentor and coach students/teams, promptly following up on inquiries
Manage the application and acceptance process for coaching program
Make recommendations for new offerings or community-building activities to meet constituent needs and collaborate with Impact Studio faculty and staff to develop and implement concepts
Impact Studio Space and General Management
Oversee management of physical needs of studio space, including maintenance of tools, resources, equipment/furniture, and materials
Oversee successful logistics management for Impact Studio programming and events
Work with Managing Director to plan and implement the appropriate budget for the program
Manage the budget on behalf of the program assuming responsibility for day-to-day management of the program’s financial status
Utilize data analysis to inform recommendations and decisions about studio activities
Relationship Management & Communications
Foster a warm and welcoming atmosphere within the studio space and across stakeholder groups.
Build and nurture relationships with alumni and donors to promote the studio
Advance studio’s strategic goals by identifying and fostering key relationships corporate/community partners, faculty, staff, students, and other studio stakeholders
Collaborate and develop partnerships with other Ross and University of Michigan departments, units, student clubs, etc. to advance strategic goals
Collaborate with studio faculty and staff and B+I Marketing Manager in determining marketing and communications needs of the studio to communicate with internal and external audiences
Foster optimal positioning of and promote positive public relations for the studio
Support the compilation and editing of compelling studio-related content for communications activities
Represent and promote the studio at various campus events and community activities
Help to manage lists of students, campus contacts, partner organizations, and stakeholders
General Support and Processes
Create effective processes to coordinate across existing programs and emerging priorities
Support faculty and staff on special projects
Contribute ideas to advancing the Business+Impact initiative and the +Impact Studio
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as design, business, anthropology, social psychology, engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary
Five or more years of professional experience managing programs, projects, and/or events with two or more years of proven experience with design thinking/innovation expertise, training, and facilitation
Experience in strategic planning and execution
Fluency and experience with design and a wide variety of design methodologies and tools (i.e. design thinking, human centered design, creative problem-solving) with strong design aesthetic
Excellent written and verbal skills, diplomacy, and discretion
Strong group facilitation, visual storytelling, and presentation skills to a range of constituents
Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and consistently meet deadlines with expected quality, high level of organization, and attention to detail is essential
Team-oriented, curious, and flexible with a commitment to customer-service
Proven ability to establish and maintain good working relationships and effective channels of communication at multiple levels and with diverse internal and external stakeholders
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Self-starting with an entrepreneurial spirit and adept in managing ambiguity
A creative, multidisciplinary thinker with passion for innovation and human-centered design
Passion for and knowledge of impact, social innovation, and sustainability related topics
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google applications, Keynote, and design software
Prior work experience in impact and/or sustainability is preferred
Familiarity or experience with business design, entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship desired
Familiarity or experience with integrating systems thinking and strategy with design thinking
Advanced skills in presentation design and design software and tools such as Slack
