The Newport, Delaware site is the BASF Colors & Effects global supply point for red High Performance Pigments (Quinacridone and DPP) and Vacuum Metallized Pigment (Metasheen) servicing the global Coatings, Plastics, and Inks industries. Approximately 40 different red High Performance Pigments in the Quinacridone and DPP families are manufactured through complex batch organic chemical processing. Additionally, aluminum-based Effect Pigments are produced through a vacuum metallization process. The site is located in the northern tip of Delaware, close to Wilmington, and is about 30 minutes away from the Philadelphia, PA airport. The Newport site was established over 100 years ago, with the two previous owners being DuPont (1934-1984) and CIBA (1984-2009). The Newport site is one of the eleven global manufacturing sites that form the pigments company BASF Colors & Effects.
What You'll Be Doing - The purpose of this position is to effectively lead and manage a single-site manufacturing operation and global supply point through the creation and implementation of the site vision, and strategic and tactical plans, which will continuously improve the functioning of the operation, and are aligned with the business strategy.

Be responsible for all projects and initiatives that support the company strategy and vision. Actively participate on the global extended leadership team (exPEC) to shape the future of the company and build company culture.

Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline required.
Strong verbal and technical writing communication skills.
Strong management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum 15 years of demonstrated leadership experience in manufacturing, including a variety of managerial positions, preferably in chemical industry, required.
Experience with Operations Excellence tools (LEAN, Six Sigma) required.
Experience directly managing others required.
Plant Manager experience required.
Good knowledge of US regulatory and legislative requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees, the public, the government, and the media.
Demonstrated the ability to identify problems and opportunities and define the structure, plan and projects to satisfy site and business objectives.
Must have knowledge of external affairs, representing company with community stakeholders.
Ability to establish and maintain a positive culture, engage employees, and manage employee relations issues and labor relations.
Demonstrated track-record of manufacturing achievement in the critical success areas of EHS, cost reduction, quality improvement, cycle time reduction, asset optimization, large capital project management, and application of leading-edge methods and technologies.
Excellent analytical/problem solving skills with ability to analyze complex technical, operational and financial data and develop effective solutions.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence people at all levels in the organization, customers, suppliers and other external contacts that allows for achievement of substantial results through others.

Proven track record for creating continuous improvements in the culture, facilities, and technology at a manufacturing site.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing site support systems in the areas of Supply Chain, Logistics, Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP preferred), Total Productive Maintenance, Continuous Improvement (Lean-Six Sigma), Quality Management, Controlling, and Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS).
Site Manager experience strongly preferred.
Degree in engineering preferred.
Experience in successfully managing both union and non-union relationship is preferred, with demonstrated ability to positively manage employee relation issues, improve site culture through employee engagement, and optimize organizational design.
Experience with lean manufacturing methodologies preferred.
Detailed knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices in a highly technical environment preferred.
