Alfred State College seeks a motivated and experienced faculty member and administrator to provide leadership and guidance as the next Business Department Chair. The position is full-time tenure-track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor/Professor, based on experience, beginning August 2019.
As Chair, the position receives a 50% reduction in teaching load as well as a stipend while providing academic and administrative leadership to the department's faculty and staff. The Department Chair works collaboratively with the Dean's Office as a member of the campus shared leadership team to develop and implement strategic plans, represent the school and university in the community, and engage in university-wide leadership activities. The Chair provides leadership in all departmental matters including: hiring, supervision of faculty and staff, student recruitment and retention, curriculum development, scheduling, programmatic or major accreditation, and budgeting.
Minimum qualifications include an MBA or a master's degree in a business field including Supply Chain, Logistics, Accounting, Marketing, Management, or related area. Preference will be given to those candidates who also hold a doctorate degree.
Excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills are required.
Candidates should have experience with program administration, teaching and advising undergraduate students and past work with program accreditation and assessment. High value is placed on a team player who brings a variety of teaching interests and demonstrates knowledge of innovative learning technologies and program delivery, along with online teaching experience in a highly collaborative discussion-based asynchronous classroom. A desire to work at a small, residential college is essential.
The ideal candidate will have a successful history of academic program management, program development, team building, partnership development, faculty mentorship, and a commitment to teaching and student success. Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience leading change and driving innovation is preferred.
