The Manager Transportation is responsible for providing leadership that will enable transportation teams to manage and improve the transportation of merchandise across our supply chain. This role oversees the management of core carrier relationships and contracts, leads carrier compliance, drives continuous process improvement, manages and develops transportation team members, and leads the development of monthly/quarterly metrics reports. The Manager Transportation will build strategic partnerships across the organization to understand key challenges and lead transportation initiatives that will remove obstacles and provide the optimal balance of service, cost and capacity.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and manage a team of Transportation Analysts. Clearly communicate vision and priorities, drive strong engagement and lead team in delivering exceptional results.
Partner with Director Transportation and Sr. Manager Transportation to develop and implement detailed best practices and processes to support best in class vision of future supply chain strategies
Build strategic partnerships both internally and externally to develop winning strategies and operational plans that drive superior service to our key stakeholders
Lead the development and implementation of continuous improvement efforts
Oversee the management of carriers to ensure their capacity meets Ulta’s demands
Lead the team in quickly resolving service challenges. Critical areas include Supply Chain communication, merchandise delivery, holiday and event planning, Supply Chain problem resolution in support of DCs and stores, and execution of business continuation plans.
Lead key strategic projects such as GWP/BB, peak planning, & shipment schedule redesigns.
Lead the development of reports and dashboards ensuring that on-time delivery, on time pickup, carrier performance and cost initiatives perform to target.
Communication opportunities to leadership and devise clear plans for KPI improvements
Lead the negotiation of annual rates with service providers in RFPS and assist with spot pricing
Identify and negotiate opportunities for long-term dedicated contracts
Identify potential new service providers to add to approved carrier list.
Oversee the development of carrier scorecards & lead monthly/quarterly reviews.
Continually evolve the team through introduction and deployment of industry leading practices.
Lead enterprise level projects to improve and enhance capabilities as assigned
Bachelor Degree required, MBA preferred.
Minimum 5-7 years experience working within a Logistics/Distribution/Supply Chain environment
Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and lead in an extremely fast-paced environment
Overcome obstacles and deliver team results. Advanced skills in the following areas: Communication (Oral & Written), Interpersonal Skills, Analytical Skills, Organization, Leadership.
Proficient in Excel, Enterprise, and TMS related systems
Previous experience in Vendor/supplier management required
Management reporting on supply chain
Strong in-depth knowledge of Supply Chain
Work effectively within a team environment
Self-motivated and able to manage by exception
Ability to build relationships at various levels and influence decisions
Resolve conflicts/discrepancies positively and professionally
