Reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer, this is a newly created corporate level position. It is a unique opportunity to capitalize on business growth and drive the transition from purchasing to strategic sourcing of direct material purchases. This role will have direct commodity responsibility and establish metrics and standards to ensure that purchased materials support quality, cost, delivery, and service levels.
Success will require monitoring industry trends and markets, identify risks/opportunities, and strategic planning of short and long-term commodity objectives. Core competencies needed include managing the RFX process, SRM and negotiating pricing/contracts for the Lummus Group (Agriculture, Intralogistics, Manufacturing), while maintaining the highest ethical standards. Working across businesses and plants it is critical to collaborate with, and challenge internal teams to drive change and best practices.
The ideal candidate is creative, strategic, strong negotiator and calculated risk taker.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design and deploy long term procurement strategies to optimize total cost of purchase and achieve business targets
-Source for multiple plant operations (consolidated buy across various business units )
-Consolidate and negotiate corporate contracts for production equipment and finished goods and assemblies.
Identify and analyze opportunities for savings and lead time improvements, utilizing should cost analysis and make\buy conversions
Manage the RFX process and negotiate contracts, including price, pay terms and P.O. terms
Collaborates with commodity team to conduct peer reviews to evaluate sourcing strategies ensuring the very best quality, cost, delivery, and service to the businesses
Prepares various types of reports to support strategies by collecting, analyzing and synthesizing data from multiple sources
Work cross functionally with manufacturing, engineering and quality to identify and implement continuous improvement projects including alternate sources, alternate materials and supplier and material consolidation that takes advantage of economies of scale to maximize savings
Supplier Performance Management through detailed scorecards measuring on time delivery, quality and cost savings
Analyzes functional activities/processes and recommends actions to improve work efficiencies
Define priorities to sources of supply whenever material/parts are constrained or on allocation
Evaluate supply chain abilities to support ad-hoc or un-forecasted demand changes
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Develop and maintain strong working relationship with suppliers
Interface with all levels of management, both internally and externally, to resolve related sourcing issues
Work with sales and finance to ensure proper recognition of delivery to support business metrics and customer deadlines
Ensure and promote compliance to Company and Procurement policies and procedures
Perform other Purchasing tasks as required
Travel: Up to 40% travel is possible the first 6 – 8 months to execute commodity strategies and contracts. Travel may be outside of the local area and overnight. All travel will be domestic.
2-3 years buyer/planner experience with increasing responsibilities and 5+ years commodity management experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience consolidating and negotiating corporate contracts for point of use items (paint, MRO, safety, hardware, specialty components, etc.)
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes
Demonstrated success with developing and executing sourcing strategies across business units
Experience establishing and managing long-term supplier agreements; contract, terms, and volume rebate negotiations; vendor relations, scorecards and quality management
Knowledge and experience in managing the RFX process
Create RFIs, RFQs; analyzing quotes; identifying cost drivers, etc.
Demonstrated negotiating experience: piece price, terms, and delivery with external vendors
Experience in contract execution and management
Experience with cost modeling/cost drivers/cost structures
Create “should cost” models to drive negotiations
Able to analyze data, extrapolate insights and communicate findings clearly and concisely to management
Excellent problem-solving skills and judgment to drive issue resolution in a timely manner; develops alternative solutions
Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral and interpersonal) with all levels of management, co-workers and vendors
Perceptive and can influence others to obtain support for commodity strategies
Experience reading engineering drawings, specifications and bills of material
Ability to self-manage in a dynamic environment with minimal oversight
Excellent organization and follow-up skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate efficiently despite frequent interruptions
Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MRP and MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college

Institute for Supply Management (ISM) C.P.M., CPSM® or CPSM® or The Association for Operations Management (APICS) CPIM, CSCP or CFPIM professional certifications
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, engineering, etc.
