The Buyer / Planner plays a central role in delivering new projects from customer order to installation. The Buyer/Planner works with Bid Managers, Project Managers, Engineering and Installation Teams on projects nationwide.
Success in this position requires excellent negotiations skills and the ability to collaborate with, manage, and challenge internal project teams and suppliers. The ability to anticipate and resolve issues that can jeopardize a flawless launch is critical.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Function as a member of extended project teams, working extensively with bid development, engineering and project managers to develop plans for procurement and delivery of parts/equipment.
Analyzes functional activities/processes and recommends actions to improve work efficiencies
Prepares simple reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data from various sources
Collaborate with corporate commodity managers:
Assist with RFX processes as needed
Adhere to contractual requirements at the business unit level
Develop and maintain strong working relationship with suppliers to achieve production and shipping schedules.
Monitor open purchase orders for all orders to ensure on-time deliveries.
Resolve discrepancies in supplier shipments
Confirm delivery for invoicing approval and payment to accounts payable, providing documentation as needed
Report status of parts tied to each project milestone
Proactively identify and resolve problems related to assigned parts / suppliers
Maintain a pricing database to support the bid development team
Issue and maintain purchase orders
Identify and set up new sources as needed, including negotiation of terms and non-disclosure agreements
Perform other sourcing tasks as required
Travel: This position may require up to 20% travel. Travel may be outside of the local area and overnight. All travel will be domestic.
2+ years of experience in Sourcing, preferably in a construction related industry
Knowledge and experience in managing the RFX process
Create RFIs, RFQs, analyzing quotes, identifying cost drivers, etc.
Demonstrated negotiating experience: piece price, terms, and delivery with external vendors
Able to analyze data, extrapolate insights and communicate findings clearly and concisely to management
Excellent problem solving and judgment to drive issue resolution in a timely manner; develops alternative solutions
Experience with managing and expediting parts delivery to meet project time lines
Experience reading engineering drawings, specifications and bills of material
Ability to self-manage in a dynamic environment with minimal oversight
Strong sense of urgency & attention to detail
Excellent organization, communication and follow-up skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate efficiently despite frequent interruptions
Excellent communication skills, written and oral, and the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally.
Proficient with MS Office suite- intermediate Excel skills
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
Positive attitude and enthusiasm
Self-motivated; able to work independently without direct supervision
Strong work ethic and drive for success
Ability to function effectively as a team member in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic business environment

Knowledge of parcel handling equipment, metal fabrications, and/or drive systems
Experience in handling large dollar projects from a purchasing prospective
Proficiency working with ERP systems
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, engineering, etc.
Institute for Supply Management (ISM) C.P.M., CPSM® or CPSM® or The Association for Operations Management (APICS) CPIM, CSCP or CFPIM professional certifications
