The Sourcing team's mission is to research, identify, negotiate, and bring the most cost efficient and capable suppliers into our supply chain then strengthen Bradshaw Home’s relationships with them in a cycle of continuous improvement and mutual benefit.
To facilitate Bradshaw’s continued growth and constant product development, sourcing team members must easily navigate ambiguity, collaborate with multiple departments, and establish strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders to drive results. The Director of Strategic Sourcing will work with each of Bradshaw’s divisions, collaborating, leading and supporting their sourcing, product development, and service needs. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Procurement.
Summary of strategy-setting expectations
The Director of Strategic Sourcing sets strategies related to vendor assessments, procurement guidelines and purchasing terms to help ensure products or services are developed and delivered on-time and as-expected. This also includes setting policies and methodologies for sourcing new products or services, approving vendors, and determining when products should be sourced to a single vendor or to multiple vendors to provide for a stable and consistent supply. The Director collaborates with internal business partners to understand demand and supplier trends, and analyzes financial information related to total cost of ownership to identify opportunities for cost reductions.
The Director oversees both supplier relationship and contract management. As part of analyzing vendor service levels and reviewing adherence to contracts, the Director will document both short- and long-range plans to improve sourcing costs and vendor performance.
Engage with the Factories and with Bradshaw’s Asia team to leverage the current supplier base while emphasizing the continuous development of an expanded supplier network to meet the needs of Bradshaw’s growing business.
Provide strategic sourcing leadership to deliver on company initiatives related to cost reduction, cost avoidance, supplier rationalization and standardizing purchasing practices.
Participate at the earliest stages of a product’s development cycle, engaging marketing, design, and quality teams to ensure expectations (timelines, quantity, and quality-level) can be achieved.
Assist in, and where appropriate personally direct, major negotiations with suppliers that seek the best outcome for Bradshaw while maintaining good relationships with vendors.
Serve as the link between Sourcing, Procurement and Product Development departments, both for routine business processes as well as problem-solving.
Enable a continuous improvement environment whereby product lines are reviewed to optimize cost and quality while meeting the changing needs of the business.
Train and provide development opportunities within the Sourcing team.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance/Accounting, or related field. MBA a plus.
Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP).
Key Selection Criteria
10-12 years’ strong management experience in the sourcing and product development of a broad range of commodities and services, preferably with contract manufacturers, on a global basis.
Extensive knowledge of global sourcing trends and best practices, preferably including interaction with professional associations (like ISM, NPI, APICS or similar).
Demonstrated Lean knowledge and application.
Strong project management experience. Build and fosters relationships both internally and externally and is able to act as a business partner to the marketing and product development teams.
Familiarity and comfort with legal terminology and language related to supplier agreements, regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA, OEHHA, CBP/C-TPAT), and various types of audits including factory social compliance.
Proven problem-solving, analytical, and influencing skills.
High-level functioning within ERP and Microsoft Office software.
Communications: An excellent oral and written communicator. Proactive communicator and able to effectively explain and articulate strategic, financial and business fundamentals to a variety of people, with varying degrees of financial and business knowledge, both internally and externally. Internally, can engage people across the organization and foster buy-in to new ideas and concepts. Externally is an effective and credible spokesperson for the company; an ambassador, if you will, that projects Bradshaw’s culture and values. Strong executive presence, presentation and communication skills.
