The role of the Director of Global Sourcing is to develop the strategic approach to purchasing carrier capacity to support Penske Logistics continued growth within the Freight Management product (Transportation Management/ Lead Logistics Provider/Brokerage/Backhaul). Today we directly and indirectly manage $4.1B of 3 rd party transportation across 5,100 carriers. The Director of Global Sourcing will be responsible to develop a Commodity focused procurement organization spanning all modes of transportation to include ground, air, sea, rail and expedites. Growth will be achieved thru relationship development of new carriers to fully meet Penske's carrier qualification requirements. This role will support the continued growth and success of the Sourcing department and drive customer satisfaction by focusing the team on continuous improvement opportunities and building account stability.
Develop and define core carrier sourcing strategy that supports corporate objectives
Develop a commodity based approach to sourcing all modes of transportation
Negotiate and implement carrier contracts across multiple modes of transportation including truckload, less than truckload, ocean, rail, etc.
-Negotiates major and/or global agreements which include negotiating price, capacity, terms and conditions in support of those agreements.
Measures and manages carriers performance vs contracted service levels
Develops supplier scorecards that measure performance against key requirements and obligations
Works collaboratively with carriers and customers to recommend and execute continuous improvement strategies.
-Builds and leverages strong working relationships with internal customers and key suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met.
Develops Supplier Diversity opportunities by identifying new and/or alternative suppliers
Establish and implement a transportation sourcing strategy focusing on total cost of ownership and Supplier Diversity
-Market and industry intelligence to drive sourcing strategy, provide industry updates and be the industry expert
-Research, identify and analyze current and emerging supplier and industry trends to develop a deep understanding of market conditions
Work with Penske Truck Leasing Procurement to understand their process and category models
-Identify and implement best in class sourcing model to manage our partners
-Identify cost savings through implementing efficient and LEAN process
Builds and leads cross-functional teams that achieve timely and exceptional results that meet or exceed expectations
Develop the team's management skills, coaching team members in the art of Negotiation and Contracting.
-Partners with other Penske management to develop business plans and budgets that align with corporate strategies
-Provide key input to customer pricing decision process
-Other projects and enterprise assignments as assigned by VP of Freight Management
Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Logistics/Supply Chain, or Business Administration required
10 years progressive leadership responsibility within Logistics, Transportation and Procurement required
Prior supervisory/management experience required
Deep industry knowledge and experience with multiple transportation modes including truckload, less than truckload, ocean, rail.
Strong analytical background, including the ability to identify sources of potential error, and coach/mentor team on analytical processes
Ability to effectively manage in a matrix organization structure working with multiple internal customers
Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required to develop and maintain working relationships with senior leaders as well as internal / external customers.
Successful track record of building relationships with stakeholders or customers that have resulted in high customer satisfaction
-Thorough knowledge of emerging technical and regulatory issues that could improve and drive cost improvement and help improve profit margins is required.
Must have outstanding project management, presentation, and organizational skills
Ability to travel up to 25%, primarily within North America with the potential for international travel.
-Proven financial acumen is required
-Willingness to work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, to travel as necessary, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required
