We are seeking an ambitious, driven and motivated Senior Category Manager to join and be a key member in the Lab & Medical Sourcing team. The Senior Category Manager will report to the Director, Lab & Medical Sourcing, and is responsible for the sourcing of goods and services in order to meet the University's lab and medical sourcing needs.
Key responsibilities include managing University-wide Purchasing Agreements (UwPA's) for the commodity area including reviewing and independently drafting contracts and contract extensions, developing and monitoring performance reports, and managing vendor business reviews.
Essential functions, include, but are not limited to:
Identifies commodities suitable for sourcing via UwPA's based on analysis of University spend data with the Director
Manages cross functional teams to understand University-wide needs
Develops, selects, awards, negotiates and implements UwPA's, including writing and evaluating Requests for Proposal (RFP's) and the subsequent negotiations
Processes requisitions and contracts of up $50,000 ensuring complete and accurate documents are submitted, in addition to being fully compliant with University purchasing policies and other applicable regulations
Manages the University’s equipment leasing portfolio and related activities
Provides recommendations to customers regarding sources of supply, and performs bid solicitations, analyses and evaluations
Negotiates optimum delivery schedules and ensures the best combination of price, quantity discounts, product quality, standard terms and conditions, and, where appropriate, supports the establishment of long term agreements
Performs data gathering, analyses and reporting in order to support University Purchasing goals and objectives, as well as develops and delivers reports and presentation materials
Manages suppliers, cost, quality and delivery performance and ensures compliance to specified quality requirements; implements appropriate sourcing strategies to control the University's purchased goods and service costs and ensure an adequate source of supply
Develops and maintains mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster effective feedback mechanisms and continuous improvement as well as negotiate the best possible value, ensure the quality of all goods and services purchased, and fully meet the needs of the end users
Surveys and benchmarks market conditions and trends, keeping abreast of new industry developments and products, and effectively communicates this information both within the Purchasing team and to the broader University purchasing community
Trains and educates the University purchasing community with respect to Purchasing policies, procedures and techniques, and works closely with the Manager for User Support in regard to the same
Perform other related duties and special projects, as assigned.
You drive continuous improvements in related Purchasing processes and assist in the development of performance metrics for the commodity area. You are comfortable representing the Purchasing team at customer and supplier meetings. You are able to build relationships with internal and external customers, as well as with all levels of management and a diverse group of constituents throughout the organization through consensus building. You have a strong attention detail, including a keen eye for accuracy and thoroughness, and excellent organizational and problem solving skills. You have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. You are proactive and take ownership of your work and assignments. You are a self – starter, take initiative and can work independently. You also have these essential skills:
Have a general understanding of the laws, rules, and regulations related to UCC
Ability to collect and analyze data, evaluate information, prepare reports, summaries and analyses and present findings and recommendations
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills
Ability to negotiate and resolve problems
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality
Flexible in in nature and have sound judgement
