|Responsibilities include: |
• Supporting Johnson Controls’ global manufacturing and service operations with expert import and Census guidance and advice. • Developing, publishing and facilitating the implementation of the JCI import and Census compliance programs. • Providing guidance to senior management and the businesses on import and Census regulations. • Providing direction, guidance and training to employees involved in exporting and importing. • Recommending import and Census strategies for major international programs and activities. • Conducting import and Census compliance audits and assessments. • Managing responses to inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import or Census regulation requests to ensure timely clearance. • Overseeing responses to CF 28’s, 29’s or other written or oral Customs or Census inquiry. • Monitoring the auditing of completed Customs entry packets to ensure the proper filling of entry information. • Ensuring the proper and timely filing of all post entry reconciliations including voluntary tenders, protests, or Supplemental Information Letters (SIL). • Developing company-wide training on import and Census compliance. • Drafting appropriate prior and voluntary disclosures, as needed, for submission to the appropriate government agency. • Assisting the businesses to determine the appropriate valuation, classification and other import/export requirements of products. • Selecting and authorizing use of JCI customs brokers and freight forwarders. • Setting up and managing the ACE account for all JCI entities. • Ensuring communications with government officials are professionally prepared, accurate and properly coordinated. • Identifying potential import and Census issues and implementing corrective actions on a proactive basis. • Working closely with the JCI trade compliance team and other functional areas (E.g. Supply Chain, Logistics, Purchasing, and Tax) to inform them of the impact of trends and other internal/external events. • Building strong relationship with senior management and within the businesses. • Attending periodic business reviews and meetings, when appropriate. • Staying informed of changes in government trade regulations, world trade initiatives, and other trade legislation to ensure JCI policies, standards and procedures remain current. • Minimizing the impact of regulatory requirements on legitimate import trade. • Maximizing JCI use of preferential trade agreements, where appropriate. • Identifying customs initiatives, resources and technology improvements for JCI’s trade compliance program. • Supporting, communicating, and reinforcing the mission, values and JCI culture of compliance.
• 6 - 10 years of relevant import and Census experience. • Excellent academic credentials • Knowledge of US (and preferably some international) import and Census laws and regulations • Excellent communication and writing skills • Licensed Broker is a plus • JD is a plus
