Interrelationships: Works closely with management, estimating, sales, maintenance department, BOM, parts room, inventory control, and receiving.
Education: High School diploma required. College degree preferred.
Experience: 3 - 5 years at manager level in purchasing or inventory control.
Skills/Ability: Written and oral communication skills, ability to work well with others, good negotiation skills, good computer skills, good organizational skills. General understanding of steel fabrication, including machine capabilities and finished tolerances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies to meet business plan.
Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer supplier power.
Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
Keep a professional and positive attitude with both suppliers and fellow employees.
Execute purchasing process for all supplies and materials as needed to meet business goals.
Find the vendor with the best possible price and delivery for the parts specified and ensure vendors adhere to both price and delivery.
Inform plant manager when a vendor is going to miss the projected ship date.
Decrease purchase costs without sacrificing quality.
Ensure defective parts are returned to vendors and credits are issued or a new part is received (RGA Process).
Develop quotes for estimating purchases on a timely basis (most cases 1-2 days).
Reconcile invoice/purchase order discrepancies when needed.
Prepare accurate and timely invoices and credit memos for entry into Symix.
Responsibility for Tax Exemption Certificates process.
Notify shipping to process direct shipments.
Telephone, fax, personal computer, printer, and copy machine.
