This person will have procurement responsibility for the IT category globally, plus at least one additional small category consistent with former experience. Spend responsibility will be for internal Bain Capital spend with ad hoc support for portfolio company initiatives.
The role requires management of 10 – 15 sourcing initiatives or contracts in flight at any given time. From an infrastructure perspective, this position will lead several center of excellent initiatives on behalf of the department, which depending on skillset and interest may include the Supplier Recognition initiative, oversight of the firm’s operational policy documentation, development of financial risk assessment tools, etc. They will coordinate with stakeholders globally, document results, manage escalations, and highlight concerns for various stakeholder parties including but not limited to Legal and Compliance. The position is critical for maximizing value of any our supplier relationships and optimizing pricing and other terms.
Category Lead – IT and at least one other category or department area spend:
Team with stakeholders to create and work to an enterprise-wide Category Strategies; each category strategy will interpret analytics, supplier offerings and market trends to plot out a path to maximized value
Execute the sourcing process for spend based on identified opportunities
Drive continuous improvement activities in spend portfolio - optimize internal demand / specifications and optimize supplier services / products
Conduct Total Cost of Ownership and Make / Buy analyses
Lead contracting process; team with Legal counsel to develop contracts ensuring quality and adherence to Legal and Bain Capital policies / standards
Identify areas of opportunity that relate to these categories outside of today’s accountabilities; collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to yield value for Bain Capital
Identify areas of rogue or maverick spend and seek to consolidate; globally as appropriate
Manage supplier relationships and issues
Contribute to the documentation of initiatives and supplier records in Procurement’s systems
Partner with the IT Risk group to manage supplier risk by facilitating risk discovery processes, and developing and executing on mitigation plans; make designated leaders in the company aware of risk exposure
Assist in continuous improvement programs for suppliers

The team has a number of programs and initiatives in flight that this role may take accountability for; below is a list to be considered and discussed between applicant and the interview team:
Lead the Supplier Recognition Initiative
Oversight of operational policy document which requires annual updates from Compliance, IT, Legal, Travel, and other stakeholders internationally
Enhance approach to assessing supplier financial risk
Provide input into the Procurement Policy and Procurement Procedure
Data collection and reporting for cross-portfolio supply arrangements
Team with stakeholders, IT, and the team’s intern support to produce reporting to include details on initiatives and contracts in flight, procurement opportunities, and areas of risk exposure
Special Projects Support:
Portfolio company support as requested
3+ years progressive Procurement experience with at least 1 year in IT Procurement highly preferred (although candidates with exceptional procurement skills without IT experience may be considered).
Excellent communication skills, leadership, project management, and problem-solving required
Skills with Analytics, Reporting, Negotiations, Finance, and presentations required
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing sourcing strategies which have yielded measurable business results
Knowledge and experience in principles, practices and trends of indirect category environments and related procurement policies, applicable laws and competitive solicitation practices.
Commercial experience, such as cost analysis, internal and external benchmarking, market trend analysis, and supporting supplier negotiations
Excellent negotiation and analytical skills with the ability to manage and develop supplier relationships
Comfortable with ambiguity and enjoys managing multiple project and complex situations
Proven quantitative and analytical abilities, detail-oriented and organized
Core competencies include strong business acumen, demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, ability to strategically link long-range business goals to daily activities, demonstrated ability to work with others to develop talent for the organization, and desire to use organizational knowledge to assist and influence others to specific action
Experience in the designated categories or indirect categories preferred by not required
